I was asked to make about 30cm tall snowman which would resemble the snowman from the movie The Snowman (1982). So this is what I came up with.
Finished size of the snowman is about 30cm high and 15cm wide.
Materials
- 3,5 mm crochet hook
- White, mixed green, black and orange worsted weight yarns
- Fiber fill
- Needle for sewing
Snowball #1
Snowballs are done working in a spiral. There is no need to join rounds but rather just continue around.
Use white yarn. Start stuffing when you reach round 43.
Finalize stuffing the ball, fasten off and sew the hole shut.
Snowball #2
Use white yarn. Start stuffing when you reach round 37.
Finalize stuffing the ball, fasten off and sew the hole shut.
Snowball #3
Use white yarn. Start stuffing when you reach round 31.
Finalize stuffing the ball, fasten off and sew the hole shut.
Snowman Face
Make two eyes. Use black yarn. Leave a tail for sewing the eyes in place.
Make one nose. Use orange yarn. Leave a tail for sewing the nose in place.
Finalize the head by sewing eyes and nose to the smallest ball. Sew a happy mouth. See the next picture for placement guide.
Buttons
Make five buttons. Use black yarn.
Sew three buttons to the largest ball and two buttons to the middle ball.
Hat
Use mixed green or dark green yarn.
Fasten off
Scarf
Scarf is made in rows. Turn the scarf after each row. Use mixed green or dark green yarn.
Repeat until scarf measures about 40cm or wraps around the snowman’s neck nicely. Fasten off.
Cut small pieces of yarn and sew them on both ends of the scarf to create tassels.
Finishing the snowman
Sew the three snowballs on top of each other.
Sew or place the hat on top of the snowman.
Wrap the scarf around the snowman’s neck.
Enjoy your new happy friend. :)
